Social Justice Awareness & Global Health

Due to the untimely event of the recent pandemic, we were not able to experience Portugal in the way that we were meant to. Despite that, this class taught me a lot about myself and my cultural identities. Here I have laid out two assignments from the class, The Intercultural Identity Debrief assignment, and my PowerPoint on Portuguese holidays!

Arab American Studies

Fall 2021 Honors Experience:

This past semester in my Arab American Studies course provided me plenty of insight into the experiences of those of Arab descent. Going into the class I was completely mistaught by our education systems on how to properly address the issues and discriminations that plague these communities. Through detailed class discussion, primary sources, and personal anecdotes from my professor, learning in this class came easily. At the end of the semester, we were all tasked with a presentation of a few Arab American people which was assigned to us.  â€‹â€‹

Ethics in Criminal Justice
Spring 2021 Honors Experience

I went into this course with the idea that I was going to be learning things that I had already understood. Because I am a Criminal Justice major, and this was a class filled with non-CJ majors, I feared that the class would be repetitive. While many of the concepts we discovered were ones I had been studying for the past 3 years, it was extremely interesting to see non-CJ majors' perspectives and opinions on matters. Similar to the results you would receive from a survey, I was able to grasp what the general public understood about Criminal Justice, and what work I needed to do to bridge those communities. I am also including my final presentation and paper on Life in Prison and the ethics of it!

War & Peace in Asia
Spring 2021 Honors Experience

This was honestly one of the most difficult classes I have ever taken in my college career. From being online for the semester, to having little to no guidance throughout the class, and on top of that constant scutinization from my classmates, this was one of the biggest accomplishments of my 3 years at UC. I went into the class with zero knownkedge on relations in Asia, and barely any geographical knowledge on the countries within Asia. Immediately, I was deemed "less intelligent" than my classmates who we're mainly International Relations or Political Science Majors already having this background knowledge. Despite the challenge, I utilized much of my free time "catching up" and doing further research to not only know what I was talking about, but how I could connect it to my studies and my life. I ended up excelling in the class, and in the end I did a really interesting project about Women in Afghanistan and Policitcal relations tying together both my passions and majors, as well as class content.
